CAB was founded as a bibliographic database and abstracting service of agriculture in 1932, its present name is Centre of Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI). Online coverage is from 1973 to the present, the number of records is more than 6.3 million, records added annually is more than 300 000. The database fully integrates the whole contents of Index Veterinarius, Veterinary Bulletin and other abstracting CABI journals. It indexes patents; national journals published in non-international languages; reports and the so called grey literature if these have English abstract. The database is updated every month. Visitors can find information from the fields of applied life sciences: plant sciences, animal sciences, health, parasitology, ecology, forestry, earth sciences, food science and nutrition, agriculture and economics, biotechnology, agricultural engineering, leisure, recreation and tourism etc.). 80% of the coverage are journals, 2% are books, 7% reports and grey literature, 9% are conference proceedings.

In basic search we can use truncation (*). We can browse by index; the program skips to the word beginning we entered before. The connected words, e.g. title of journal, author’s name, are hyphenated and can be downloaded by a double click. The search can be narrowed by operators: AND (both words should appear), OR(one of the words should appear), NOT (records containing the first word provided they do not contain the second as well), WITH (both words are in the same field).
